F/F romantic comedy (Lesbian Book Bingo #16)

Since more than half of the year is over, many readers are slowly starting to complete their Lesbian Book Bingo cards and asking me for recommendations for squares they haven’t yet filled. One of the categories that I get asked for recommendations most often is romantic comedy. Rom-com novels are pretty popular with many readers. Every once in a while, it’s just nice to get a change of pace from all the heartache and angst and to read a novel that will make you laugh out loud. 15 GREAT F/F ROMANTIC COMEDY NOVELS I’ve put together a list of 15 …

Back from the GCLS conference in Las Vegas

At the beginning of this month, I attended the GCLS conference for lesbian fiction…or rather WLW (women-loving women) fiction since it has become a lot more inclusive. It’s an annual conference that travels around the US. This year, it was held in fabulous Las Vegas. My friends and I flew into Las Vegas a couple of days before the start of the conference to explore Sin City a little. Somehow, we managed not to end up with heat stroke, which was quite the feat with temperatures of around 115°F (46°C). People kept telling me “it’s a dry heat,” but believe …

Lesbian foodie romance (Lesbian Book Bingo #10)

It’s time for another popular subgenre: lesbian foodie romances!   Foodie romance novels—sometimes also called culinary romances—are romance novels in which food and the preparation of food are an integral part of the plot. Usually, at least one of the main characters works in the food business as a chef, a chocolatier, a pastry chef, a bakery owner, a food critic, a restaurant manager, or a caterer. These delicious reads are sure to leave you hungry for more!   You don’t need to limit yourself to food-themed books. Think about beverages too! I would count books with characters who work …

Age gap romance novels (Lesbian Book Bingo #9)

Today, I’ve got another very popular romance trope for you. A lot of romance readers love age difference romance novels.   Traditionally, an age gap romance is considered a romance novel in which there’s an age difference of at least 10 years between the two main characters. The main focus isn’t so much on the specific number of years, though, but the disparity in experience and life stage. For example, if one of the characters is in college, while the other already has a successful career, even eight years could feel like a considerable age gap.   May/December romance novels …

Lesbian science fiction novels (Lesbian Book Bingo #8)

Science fiction seems to be one of the genres that people either love or hate. Personally, I love a well-written science fiction novel, especially if it envisions a world with different concepts of gender and sexual orientation. If you love science fiction, you probably won’t even need this list of recommended reads because there aren’t that many lesbian science fiction novels, so you’ve probably already read most of them. If you’re not a big fan of science fiction, you might want to check out this helpful post about how to finish lesbian book bingo even if you don’t like speculative …

Celebrity romance novels (Lesbian Book Bingo #6)

The 90th Academy Awards ceremony took place earlier this month, so I thought this would be a good time to post the recommended reading list for the celebrity romance square of the Lesbian Book Bingo. If you need to brush up on the book bingo rules, check out the rules post. I think what makes celebrity romances so appealing to many readers is that we get to see the glamour, but also the downside of fame. Whether the famous person is an actress, an athlete, or a singer, love in the limelight has its challenges. Often, seeing two very different …

Lesbian fantasy novels (Lesbian Book Bingo #4)

I know some people aren’t clear on the difference between fantasy and paranormal fiction, so let’s start this post with a definition. What is paranormal fiction? Paranormal fiction is set in our normal world, just with some paranormal aspects added, e.g., werewolves, vampires, ghosts, or shapeshifters exist along with humans. If you take away the paranormal creatures, you’d be left with our current world. What is fantasy? Fantasy novels are set in another, imaginary world that has its own rules. Very often, magical powers and mythological creatures such as dragons play an important role. However, there’s a huge overlap between …
