Sapphic Slow-burn romances

Sapphic Book Bingo 2023

Sapphic Book Bingo 2023

Happy New Year and welcome to the Sapphic Book Bingo 2023!

Since my previous reading challenges (the Sapphic Book Bingo 2022, the Sapphic Reading Challenge in 2021, the F/F Fiction Crossword Challenge in 2020, and the Lesbian Book Bingo in 2018) were so popular with readers, I decided to host a new reading challenge in 2023. I hope it will keep you reading all year and help you find new favorite books and authors!

The Sapphic Book Bingo is a fun, year-long reading challenge for readers of sapphic fiction. It runs from January 1 to December 31, 2023.

In this post, you’ll find the rules, the bingo cards, and the categories for the Sapphic Book Bingo 2023.

Sapphic Holiday Romance

The Ultimate List of Sapphic Holiday Romances

For many of us, this is the perfect time of year to cuddle up with a good book, especially a holiday romance that puts you in a festive mood.

So I compiled the ultimate list of sapphic holiday romances—and when I say “holiday,” I’m talking about romance novels that revolve around the winter holidays (or, if you life in the southern hemisphere, the holidays in December).

I found a total of 360+ sapphic holiday romances! Most of them are Christmas romances, but there are also a few sapphic stories revolving around Hanukkah or New Year’s. I couldn’t find any sapphic stories featuring Kwanza or Diwali—if you know of any, please let me know!

sapphic romantic comedy

Sapphic romantic comedies (Sapphic Book Bingo #24)

This week’s Sapphic Book Bingo category features sapphic romantic comedies, which are also called “romcom”—light-hearted, humorous romance novels that are guaranteed to make you laugh.

Often, the line between a romcom and a romance novel with hilarious moments is a bit blurry, so I’m not going to be very strict about this category. If it feels like a romcom to you, go ahead and count it for this category.

sapphic book witih more than two points of view

Sapphic book with more than two POVs (Book Unicorn #11)

For this month’s Book Unicorn, read a sapphic book that is told from more than two points of view. That could mean that not just the two main characters, but also at least one supporting character gets their own perspective in the book. Books with more than two POVs are a Book Unicorn because most sapphic books, especially sapphic romances, are told from the points of view of the two main characters or, sometimes, just from the perspective of one protagonist.   15 recommended sapphic books with more than two points of view: Here are my book recommendations for the …

sapphic book butch character

Sapphic book with a butch main character (Sapphic Book Bingo #23)

For this week’s Sapphic Book Bingo category, read a sapphic book with a butch main character.

In case you’re not sure what butch means: Butch has been used since the 1940s, primarily in the lesbian community, to refer to masculine-presenting women, but being butch is more than how you dress or wear your hair. It’s an identity that relates to masculinity without being male. Some genderqueer and nonbinary people also identify as butch, e.g., the two main characters in A Jade’s Diamond by Char Dafoe.

There are many ways to be butch, and I hope the books I recommend below reflect that.
