sapphic book with a stunning cover

Sapphic book with a stunning or unusual cover (Book Unicorn #7)

For this week’s Sapphic Book Bingo, read a sapphic book with a cover that is stunning, unusual, or stands out in some way.

Of course, “stunning” is a very subjective term, and what stands out to one person might be considered nothing special by another. So for this category, just go by whatever cover you think is amazing or unusual in some way.

I picked the books I recommend for this category either because they won a GCLS Tee Corinne Award for Outstanding Cover Design or because they were among the top 10 favorite covers voted on by readers in my Facebook group.

Sapphic book set in a country or state you haven’t visited (Sapphic Book Bingo 2023 #9)

This week’s Sapphic Book Bingo post is a big one, with a long list of book recommendations. It features sapphic books that are set in a country or a US state you haven’t visited yet.

One of the greatest things about reading is that it transports us to new, faraway places. It enables us to travel the world without leaving the comfort of our homes. For this category, I invite you to travel to a place you haven’t experienced before.

sapphic book with heart in the title

Sapphic book with “heart” in the title (Sapphic Book Bingo 2023 #4)

For this category of the Sapphic Book Bingo, you shouldn’t have any problem finding enough books to choose from. Romance novels are the most popular genre of sapphic fiction, so there are plenty of books with the word “heart” in the title. Of course, you can also read a sapphic book in another genre, as long as the title includes the word “heart.”

The word heart can be part of an open compound, e.g., Heart Trouble, or a closed compound, e.g., heartfelt. It can be single (heart) or plural (hearts).

sapphic book character is a twin

Sapphic book with a character who’s a twin (Book Unicorn #12)

It’s time for the last Sapphic Book Bingo post of 2022! This category features sapphic books with a main character who’s a twin. It’s a category that is near and dear to my heart since I’m have a wonderful twin sister.

For this category, the character and their sibling can be maternal (identical) or fraternal twins, and it doesn’t matter whether we get to see the character’s twin during the course of the book—although it would certainly be fun!

IMPORTANT: Please don’t forget to send me your filled-out book bingo card(s) so I can enter you into the giveaway on December 31!

sapphic book butch character

Sapphic book with a butch main character (Sapphic Book Bingo #23)

For this week’s Sapphic Book Bingo category, read a sapphic book with a butch main character.

In case you’re not sure what butch means: Butch has been used since the 1940s, primarily in the lesbian community, to refer to masculine-presenting women, but being butch is more than how you dress or wear your hair. It’s an identity that relates to masculinity without being male. Some genderqueer and nonbinary people also identify as butch, e.g., the two main characters in A Jade’s Diamond by Char Dafoe.

There are many ways to be butch, and I hope the books I recommend below reflect that.

coming-out story

Coming-out story (Sapphic Book Bingo #13)

For this week’s Sapphic Book Bingo category, read a sapphic book in which the main character comes out as LGBTQIA+ during the course of the book.

Maybe the character has known for a while that they weren’t straight or weren’t cis but only now comes out to family, friends, and colleagues. Or it could be a book in which the main character discovers that they aren’t as straight or as cis as they had assumed, so the coming out is mostly to themselves first and foremost, perhaps followed by coming out to friends and family.

sapphic book by a newbie author

Sapphic book by a newbie author (Sapphic Book Bingo #12)

For this week’s Sapphic Book Bingo category, I would like you to read a book by a new author to give some attention to writers who are just starting out.

For the sake of this reading challenge, I’m defining “newbie authors” as a writer who has published only one or two novel-length books.

I put together a list of 100+ new authors of sapphic books for you, and I’m constantly adding to it as I find new authors, so keep checking back.
