Departure from the Script is now available!

My newest novella, Departure from the Script, is now available as an e-book. You can read an excerpt here, buy the mobi (Kindle) here and the epub and pdf here. This is not one of my “War and Peace” length novels, but at 52,000 words, it’s fairly long for a novella and could be called a short novel. It’s set in Hollywood and first started out as a short story, which was published under the title “The Morning after.” But my muse and my readers demanded that the main characters get more attention, so I set out to write another …

Writing Hours in May 2014

Another month is over—and it’s been a busy one! I finished the edits for my novella Departure from the Script, which will be published in about a month, and worked on its German version, Liebe à la Hollywood (sadly, the title, as is so often the case, doesn’t translate well). Otherwise, May was the month of short stories…or maybe I should say: it was supposed to be. I wrote a new shape-shifter short story titled Pigeon Post. At about 13,000 words, it’s a nice, long one, almost heading into novella territory. Then I got started on the short story for …

Writing Hours in April 2014

It’s hard to believe that it’s May already–which means just one more month until I’m traveling to the US to do some research, meet friends I haven’t met in person yet, and go to the GCLS conference in Portland! April has been a pretty great month for me. Conflict of Interest has been published and is selling well. And now that I’m through with moving and furniture assembly, I thankfully have more time to write. I added 25,000 words to my new novella, Departure from the Script, which by now has grown into an (albeit short) novel. Departure from the …

“Lessons in Love and Life” has been published

My newest short story, “Lessons in Love and Life,” has been published, and I think it’s very fitting that it’s been released just in time for Valentine’s Day. In “Lessons in Love and Life,” a companion to my historical romance Hidden Truths, Amy wants to do something nice for her sweetheart, Rika, and take her to Salem for a romantic night of dancing. But in 1869, that’s not easy for two women, so Amy comes up with a daring plan…and ends up learning some lessons in love and life. For now, the short story is available via Amazon, but it …

A heart-felt thank-you from Jae, full-time writer

Today is a very special day for me. I just came home from work—my day job as a psychologist—for the very last time. Tomorrow, my new life as a full-time writer begins. Even now that I type this, I almost can’t believe it. But as exciting and great as this is for me, I don’t want to make this blog post about me. I want to make it about the incredible people who supported me, encouraged me, and were part of fulfilling my big dream. First and foremost, I want to thank my friends and my sister. When I told …

Now available: Love Beneath the Christmas Tree

Just two and a half weeks until Christmas. Are you getting into the Christmas mood yet? Well, Rachel Lewis, the main character in my series of short stories, sure isn’t. She’s the proverbial Christmas grump, and this year, it’s even worse. It’s the first year she’ll have to celebrate Christmas without her mother, and her girlfriend left her and took their fake Christmas tree with her. No wonder Rachel thinks Christmas is humbug. But meeting Lillian Coleman and her seven-year-old son starts to change that. Soon, Rachel finds herself dressing up as Ms. Santa Claus and even playing a Christmas …

Giveaway of my new short story collection, Love Beneath the Christmas Tree

During the last three years, it’s become a sort of tradition for me to write a Christmas short story about Rachel, a.k.a. the Christmas Grump, and her not so grumpy girlfriend, Lillian. So by now, there are three short stories about that cute couple. This year, Ylva Publishing has decided to publish all three short stories in one e-book. Love Beneath the Christmas Tree includes the previously published short stories “The Christmas Grump” and “Kissing Ms. Santa Claus” as well as the brand-new short story “The Christmas Elf.” The e-book will come out around December 6, but today, Ylva Publishing …

Questions for full-time writers

In about three months, I will be taking a very huge step. I will give up my day job as a psychologist to write full time. Being a full-time writer has been a dream for me for as long as I can remember, but I never thought that the day would come when I could actually afford it. It always seemed like a pipe dream to me. But now the sales numbers have been looking great all year, and I’m also working as Ylva Publishing’s senior editor on the side, so my life-long dream stopped looking like a pipe dream. …
