Award-Winning Author of Slow-Burn Romances between Strong Women

My one-year anniversary as a full-time writer

Today, it’s my one-year anniversary of going full time as a writer! Time sure does fly when you’re having fun. It’s been an amazing year, and I’m glad to say that I never regretted my decision even for a second. So, after 365 days of being a bona fide full-time writer, I think I’m qualified to answer the questions that I asked other full-time writers on my blog last year. How long have you been writing full-time? One year exactly! December 21, 2013, was my last day of working as a psychologist, and I started writing full time the day …

A Day in the Life of a Full-Time Writer

The one-year anniversary of my transition to full-time writing is quickly approaching, and it makes me think about how much my life has changed. So I thought I would blog about a typical day in the life of a full-time writer—if there even is such a thing. Each day is different, which is part of the fun, but I try to keep a certain structure. So here’s what I did yesterday. I never set an alarm clock, but my inner clock wakes me at the same time every day, usually around 7:15 a.m. I get up, change into my work …

Interview with Gerri Hill, author of lesbian romances

Way back when I first started reading lesbian fiction, one of the first books I read was one of Gerri Hill’s romances. Some of her novels such as Artist’s Dream, Gulf Breeze, and Sierra City, are still on my all-time-favorite list. Since she has 25 novels published and more on the way, I was sure that Gerri had been writing full time for a long time, but it turned out that she gave up her day job and became a full-time writer around the same time I did–at the beginning of this year. Gerri took the time out of her …

Interview with lesbian romance author Georgia Beers

Last year, I started interviewing full-time writers of lesbian fiction. The list would hardly be complete without today’s guest. Georgia Beers lives in Rochester with her wife—the awesome-sounding Bonnie—, their niece, two dogs, and a cat. She’s the author of almost a dozen novels and short stories, including Starting from Scratch, 96 Hours (which I really enjoyed), and Snow Globe, her newest release. Despite being a self-confessed introvert, she was the keynote speaker at last year’s GCLS conference and filmed a hilarious video about “A Day in the Life of a Romance Writer.” If you haven’t watched it yet, go …

Interview with fellow author Caren Werlinger

In November and Dezember, I interviewed 10 full-time writers of lesbian fiction. In 2014, I would like to interview writers of lesbian fiction who don’t write full-time. My first guest is Caren Werlinger, who up until last year was a fellow L-Book author and is now publishing under her own imprint. Caren is the author of the award-winning novel Looking Through Windows and the critically acclaimed Misere as well as In This Small Spot and Neither Present Time. Her newest book, Year of the Monsoon, was published just a few days ago. Welcome to my blog, Caren. Let’s start with some …

Interview with lesbian romance author KG MacGregor

Back in November, I featured a series of interviews with fellow full-time writers of lesbian fiction. I had some wonderful guests, but today I’m especially proud to interview one of my all-time favorites in the lesbian romance genre—KG MacGregor. KG holds a PhD in journalism and worked as a teacher and market research consultant before trying her hand at writing fiction in 2002. If I counted correctly, she’s now the author of 18 novels, among them Etched in Shadows, Mulligan, Out of Love, and my personal favorite, the Shaken series. Read on for what KG had to say about her life …

A heart-felt thank-you from Jae, full-time writer

Today is a very special day for me. I just came home from work—my day job as a psychologist—for the very last time. Tomorrow, my new life as a full-time writer begins. Even now that I type this, I almost can’t believe it. But as exciting and great as this is for me, I don’t want to make this blog post about me. I want to make it about the incredible people who supported me, encouraged me, and were part of fulfilling my big dream. First and foremost, I want to thank my friends and my sister. When I told …

Interview with fellow writer Kim Pritekel

Welcome to the second in my series of interviews with fellow (full-time) writers. Today, I’m interviewing Kim Pritekel. Kim started writing at the age of nine, wrote her first novel at twelve, and was published for the first time at twenty-four. She is now published with Sapphire Books. I haven’t read all of her novels yet, but I loved Connection (which you might know as The Collector, which was the title of the online version), Lessons, and Twilight (again, no, not that Twilight—I like Kim’s much better). So here’s what Kim had to say about her life as a writer. …

A look back at 2012

2012 has been an incredible year for me. A lot of unexpected things happened, some of them good, some of them sad. I switched publishers this year, a move that was planned long before the death of Roxanne Jones in September and the closing of L-Book in October. I joined Ylva Publishing in mid-2012, and it’s been a great six months. In June, my novel Hidden Truths won a “Goldie” (GCLS Literary Award) in the category historical romance. I also started writing in German again, after six years of writing exclusively in English. Translating some of my stories from English …

Interview about my lesbian romance Something in the Wine

I’ve been tagged by fellow author Q. Kelly for the 22nd week of The Next Big Thing Blog Hop. The idea is to hop from blog to blog to discover exciting books we might not have heard about or that are still works in progress. Each author will answer the same ten questions, then list authors who will answer the questions on their blogs next Wednesday. So let’s get started… What is the working title of your book? My book’s title is Something in the Wine. Since the novel has already been published, it’s not a working title. By the …
